Brakes Launch New Fresh Fish Range
On 9th February 2014 Brakes launed a new fresh Fish Range in partnership with Keenan Seafoods.

Keenan Seafood Limited are a third generation business founded in 1942 by Thomas & Gerald Keenan which is now headed up by Gerry Keenan. The business originally traded from the Wholesale Fish Market in Belfast which is now the site of the Waterfront Hall but in 1992 relocated to a modern processing facility at Kennedy Way, Belfast close to the motorway network, which gives the company ready access to its wide customer base. This factory was completely upgraded in 2013 to enable the company meet the latest hygiene and environmental operating standards.

Product Range

The company supplies a comprehensive range of fresh and frozen seafood to many of the leading hotels, restaurants, contract catering groups and public sector customers throughout Ireland as well as a range of fish retail packs to the
independent retail trade. The company has also recently launched a new range of fish and sauce lines for the convenience
market. Fish is sourced on a daily basis from the local ports of Kilkeel & Portavogie as well as from Greencastle, Dunmore East and Howth in the Republic of Ireland. We are also in contact with Peterhead and Fraserburgh early each morning to check what’s available on the market and especially pick up "bargain buys" which can then be offered as specials to our customers.

Keenan Seafood has its own team of fish filleters who prepare the fish each day to meet customer specifications and also has its own smoking operation to produce its popular brands of natural smoked cod, haddock and coley.

Food Standards

Keenan Seafood has achieved the STS Public Sector Audit Standard and has a full HACCAP Plan in place which complies with all the latest environmental standards .Traceability is a key issue within the fish sector and the company has a system in place which ensures that it can track its products right through from port landing to customers kitchen.
